The Cost of Disobedience

Disobedience is costly. There is a price that is paid when we operate out of a spirit of disobedience. Romans 6:23 states this: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus." (NIV. The Holy Bible). Let's take a look at this, trust me it all makes sense. The Bible reminds us in James 1 that "sin fully grown" or matured "leads to death." (Read the whole Bible; it's in there, we promise!) Sin first starts out as a thought, as a seed, then, once watered and nurtured, it becomes a tree, and that tree eventually leads to death. It starts in your heart and in your thinking and eventually it leads to an action.

I really wanted to shine some light here; oftentimes "religion"-based theology and doctrine (as in the Spirit of Religion, not religion as a whole) will have us believing that only the ACT of sin is bad. That's just not so. The THOUGHT of sin is the first step. Why are you saying this? THIS is the base. James 1 also goes on to tell us that we will be pulled away by our own lustful desires. That means that we willingly pull away and deviate from the instruction and the plan God has for us. Yes, you were tempted. Yes, you were "influenced." Yes, you had a lot going on out there in them streets. However, YOU still made a decision.

Let's begin! What is disobedience? DISOBEDIENCE is:

  1. failure or refusal to obey rules or someone in authority. (Google, 2024.)

Disobedience is many things biblically, but for the sake of this text, I'll label it as this: dangerous, subtle, alluring, satisfying, and fun! WHHHHHHHHAT? I know, that just messed you up, right? It was done intentionally. Both that last sentence and the decision that you made. You made a conscious decision to disobey. As a good steward of The Word, it's pressed upon me to emphasize the reality that partial obedience is still disobedience. Not only this, but adding or subtracting from the instruction is also operating in error. You thought you had this all figured out. You THOUGHT that as long as you didn't sleep with that individual, you were "safe"; you're wrong. The mere fact that you THOUGHT about sleeping with them put you in bondage to lust, fornication, and whatever else was related to your thoughts of torment. Because, let's be honest, that's what it is.

Here are the main examples I want you to think about:

Moving when you want, outside of God's timing = Disobedience

Not moving at all on what God said = Disobedience

Following partial instructions = Disobedience

Adding "things" to God's instruction = Disobedience

Why is it important to reflect on this? The harsh truth is that in this season we are in and are stepping into, God is expecting COMPLETE obedience from us and nothing else. I can speak from experience the horrors of delaying to move, partial moving, or not moving at all. I found myself in a season that I never should have been in due to me telling God "no." He allowed me to sit in the consequences of that decision for a while before He delivered me from it. Trust me, being in disobedience aligns you with the wages of sin, and you WILL experience it in your life. There may be frustration in your relationships, death to your finances, backward momentum, toiling when you should be thriving, losing Kingdom connections, and so much more. I want to make it clear that though you may not experience physical death, you WILL experience spiritual death (Come on here, Adam and EVE.)

Here's some points that I want to leave you with:

For every Saul, there is a David. If you think that "it" won't get done simply because YOU didn't do it, first you need to repent. You are operating in a spirit of Pride, Ego, Idolatry, and Arrogance, and God will have no other Gods before Him. (Read Deuteronomy, Numbers, Joshua, 1 Samuel, and the rest of yo' Bible) What you won't do, God WILL raise somebody else to take your place. The sterilizing and sobering Truth is that David was anointed and crowned WHILE Saul still held the office. (Let that sink in.)

God will STILL get the Glory. God choosing you was not an accident. Let's make the distinction now that you didn't choose yourself. He chose to use you for HIS Glory. I'll submit to you that this trial, this test, and this season are FOR you and for YOUR GOOD, but it's not ABOUT YOU. God WILL get the Glory, EVEN in your disobedience.

You deciding to not move, to delay, or to add an extra piece of chicken to your 2-piece meal knowing God called you to be fast is disobedience, rooted in rebellion, which is as of witchcraft to God. Do what He says.

I want to encourage you! I know this blog post was heavy, laced with conviction, and agitating to the thought processes you set in place to keep you functioning in Rebellion. God corrects who He loves. I want to speak directly to the lie of the enemy. Obedience is not God being mean; it is Him showing us Grace and Mercy. Obedience is FOR you; it's not for God, and God is not PUNISHING you. As I spelled out earlier, God doesn't NEED you; he wants to PARTNER WITH YOU. Obedience is God's protection from death, spiritually and physically. Obedience keeps us in a constant state of Grace and Mercy, and it allows us to reap the benefits of God's love for us.

Here's some bread to chew on; I hope it fills you:
